SENATOR MAZIE K. HIRONO VOTES TO SEND DERRICK KAHALA WATSON TO THE FULL SENATE FOR CONFIRMATION TO U.S. DISTRICT COURT OF HAWAII

Hirono: My interactions with Derrick Watson have shown me that he is an intelligent, thoughtful man who will take his role on the federal bench seriously

Washington, D.C. -- Senator Mazie K. Hirono today voted as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of Derrick Kahala Watson, President Obama’s nominee to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii. Mr. Watson’s nomination now goes before the full Senate for final confirmation.

“My interactions with Derrick Watson have shown me that he is an intelligent, thoughtful man who will take his role on the federal bench seriously. During his confirmation hearing and our private meeting, Mr. Watson demonstrated that he is highly qualified. If confirmed, he will bring needed diversity to the federal bench as the sole Native Hawaiian currently serving and only the fourth in U.S. history. As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I know he will serve our nation with distinction.”
