WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Mazie K. Hirono today voted to confirm Nani A. Coloretti to the position of Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Senate confirmed Coloretti’s nomination by a vote of 68–28.
“Congratulations to Nani on her confirmation as Deputy Secretary of HUD. We are proud that Nani, who grew up in Hawaii, is now the highest ranking Filipina-American in the administration,” said Senator Hirono.
“HUD Secretary Castro told me that Nani’s role, as his right hand, is critical to implementing his vision which includes providing affordable housing and much needed infrastructure. Nani’s dedication to public service and her wealth of experience give me confidence in her ability to do an excellent job. I look forward to working with her.”
A graduate of Iolani School who grew up in Kapahulu, Nani Coloretti previously served as the Assistant Secretary for Management at the U.S. Department of Treasury. She also held various high-ranking public service positions for the City and County of San Francisco. Coloretti served as a budget analyst for the Hawaii State Department of Public Safety from 1991-92.
Nani Coloretti is a recipient of the National Public Service Award, the Public Policy and International Affairs Achievement Award, the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, and the Federal 100 Award.
