Senate Passes Bipartisan Resolution Designating May 18 as National Kids to Parks Day

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate passed the bipartisan resolution introduced by Senators Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), and four colleagues, that would designate May 18, 2024 as “National Kids to Parks Day.” The resolution encourages young people and their families to get outdoors and promotes healthy recreation.

“In Hawaii, we have over 50 state and national parks that offer our keiki the opportunity to spend time in nature and learn about how our islands’ natural resources contribute to Hawaii’s rich cultural heritage,” Senator Hirono said. “By designating May 18 as National Kids to Parks Day, this resolution encourages the next generation to spend time outside and promotes outdoor recreation, as well as an active and healthy lifestyle. I am proud to support this resolution to instill in our keiki the importance of connecting with nature and the responsibility to protect our environment for the future.”

In addition to Senators Hirono, Wyden, and Hyde-Smith, this resolution is cosponsored by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Steve Daines (R-MT), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and Angus King (I-ME).
