IN EFFORT TO GET A PASSABLE IMMIGRATION BILL, SENATOR MAZIE K. HIRONO VOTES FOR CORKER-HOEVEN BORDER SECURITY MEASURE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Mazie K. Hirono released the following statement after voting in support of cloture for Corker-Hoeven border security amendment to the Senate immigration bill.

“I am deeply concerned with the huge spending increase in this border security measure, but I too understand that it is likely a necessary political step in order to pass immigration reform. We have spent many weeks now discussing border security and very little time examining how the new green card system will impact women and families. It is still not too late to change this bill in a way that gives women a fairer shot at getting green cards in the new merit system, and I’m working closely with my Senate colleagues to get it done.”
