Washington, D.C. - Senator Mazie K. Hirono today voted to confirm Pamela Hamamoto to serve as U.S. Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva with the rank of Ambassador. Hamamoto is a Punahou School graduate and has served in numerous executive roles in financial and educational institutions. Hamamoto was confirmed by voice vote.
“Congratulations to Pamela Hamamoto on her confirmation to serve our nation as U.S. Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva,” Hirono said. “Pamela will no doubt be able to draw on her experiences growing up in Hawaii and her wealth of professional expertise to fill this role with skill and acumen.”
Pamela Hamamoto has served as an executive board member for educational institutions including The Branson School, Marin Country Day School, Stanford University Athletic Board and Ring Mountain Day School. She served as a Vice President in Corporate Finance for Merrill Lynch & Co. and has also worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co., GTE Hawaiian Tel. and Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
The United Nations Office at Geneva is one of three regional offices for the United Nations, along with Nairobi and Vienna. With more than 1,600 staff and thousands of meetings each year, the Geneva office is the biggest duty station outside of the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The office serves as a liaison between permanent missions, governments, research institutions and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. Hamamoto will represent the nation’s interests in Geneva and will report directly to U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power.
