Senator Mazie K. Hirono released the following statement on the President’s approval of a federal disaster declaration to assist communities on Kauai and Oahu affected by April’s floods.
“Rebuilding Kauai and Oahu communities affected by historic flooding requires a long-term, comprehensive response, and approval of a disaster declaration expands the federal resources available to support these efforts,” Senator Hirono said. “As the federal, state, and county governments work together to respond to these natural disasters, including volcanic activity on Hawaii Island, I will continue to advocate for all available federal support for affected communities.”
Last week, Senator Hirono traveled to Waimanalo and Kauai’s North Shore to assess storm damage and meet with families and businesses affected by the flooding. The Hawaii Congressional delegation also urged the President to approve Governor Ige’s disaster declaration request.
