HONOLULU – Senator Mazie K. Hirono today received the Courage Award from the Hawaii Comprehensive Cancer Coalition for her continued fight on behalf of Hawaii families while battling cancer.
From Senator Hirono’s remarks:
“Mahalo to the Hawaii Comprehensive Cancer Coalition for honoring me today, and for your work every day to raise awareness of what we need to do to fight cancer.
“I do not consider myself courageous or brave. I just got on with it. And I made the decision with my husband to be very forthcoming about what I have, realizing that there are people in our country and in our state who face this kind of challenge in their lives every day.”
The Hawaii Comprehensive Cancer Coalition is a network of providers, researchers, and advocates who lead cancer prevention and treatment efforts across the state. Senator Hirono’s award presentation was part of the Coalition’s 2018 summit.
