Hirono Celebrates 100th Anniversary of National Park Service at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Senator Mazie K. Hirono marked the 100th anniversary of America’s National Parks at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii Island. The Senator presented Hawaii fourth graders with Every Kid in a Park program passes, which provide free admission to National Parks for fourth graders nationwide to encourage exploration and learning.

“As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Every Kid in a Park program promotes a lifelong appreciation for our environment and natural resources,” said Senator Hirono.

“Senator Hirono is a dedicated advocate of education for Hawaii youth, and fully embraces Every Kid in a Park,” said Park Superintendent Cindy Orlando. “The Kau students who hiked with her today not only met one of Hawaii’s senators, but were able to spend quality time outdoors with someone who truly advocates for our keiki and national parks.”

Earlier this year, the Senate unanimously approved Senator Hirono’s resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Haleakala National Park.
