HIRONO ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $15 MILLION FOR HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Mazie K. Hirono announced more than $15 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for Honolulu International Airport improvements. These grants will fund the improvement of the intra-terminal shuttle stations within the Overseas Terminal Building and the replacement of a metal roof canopy covering passenger loading and unloading areas within the Overseas Terminal.

“As Hawaii’s largest airport and often the first impression visitors have of our state, Honolulu International Airport plays a critical role in Hawaii’s tourism economy,” said Hirono. “I’ll keep fighting for the kind of federal improvements announced today, which will ensure the airport remains top-notch for years to come.”

The funds will be allocated as follows:

  • Honolulu International Airport – Improve Terminal Building [Overseas Terminal Roof]: $8,871,858
  • Honolulu International Airport – Improve Terminal Building [Improve Weather Proofing]: $6,186,622
