Hirono Gives Salary to Charity During Government Shutdown

Like Hawaii’s other congressional delegates, U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono is also not taking pay during the government shutdown, which is now in Day 11.

Both CNN and The Washington Post published stories this week listing the members of Congress who are declining pay. Hirono’s office confirmed today that the senator is indeed donating her salary to charity for as long as Washington is unable to agree on a budget.
