Sen. Mazie Hirono on Sunday said Congress needs to take on the issue of comprehensive immigration reform, and the idea that people “should all take themselves back to their countries” simply doesn’t make sense.
“We need to have comprehensive immigration reform and that means there should be a path for citizenship,” the Hawaii Democrat said. “And certainly I support the DREAM Act to help all of these young people who were brought here.”
Hirono told the POLITICO New Leaders Brunch that she thinks the issue must be dealt with in a humane manner and must be a comprehensive package.
“I certainly don’t think they should all take themselves back to their countries,” she said.
