Florida Senator Bill Nelson joined Senator Hirono for a tour of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, to meet with new cemetery director, retired Colonel Jim Horton, and to pay their respects to the gravesite of the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye.
The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific is the final resting place for more than 55,000 veterans and their dependents. Administrators have several construction projects planned at the iconic facility including a $20 million dollar VA-funded project to expand the cemetery, including installing more than 7,000 columbarium niches.
Senators Hirono and Nelson pay their respects by presenting flowers at the gravesite of Senator Daniel K. Inouye.
Senator Hirono is joined by Senator and Mrs. Nelson as they visit the mosaic map displays within the halls of the Honolulu Memorial.
