Senator Hirono addressed the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) Board of Directors about evidence-based education reform and key provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which mirror HSTA’s Hawaii legislative proposals such as teacher development, early education, and high stakes testing. Board members expressed their interested in the U.S. Supreme Court nomination process and the status of Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association. The Senator also shared her support of Pell grants and college affordability, as well as efforts to restore Medicaid benefits for COFA citizens in the United States.
