WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Hirono presided over a full Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Keeping Families Together: The President’s Executive Action on Immigration and the Need to Pass Comprehensive Reform.” The hearing highlighted the impact of President Barack Obama’s Executive Order impact on families, businesses, and American workers. Immigration reform remains a priority for Senator Hirono as she was a key policy maker in the creation of the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform package. Senators emphasized that the Senate immigration reform bill passed 531 days prior to the Judiciary Committee hearing and that the House has yet to present its own comprehensive immigration bill.
In conjunction with the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Senator Hirono held a press conference that discussed President Obama’s Executive Order that will bring five million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. out of the shadows, including an estimated 7,000 people in Hawaii.
