Senate Confirms New U.S. Surgeon General

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Hirono voted to confirm Dr. Vivek Murthy as the next U.S. Surgeon General, who was approved by a vote of 51-43. In a statement released by the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Hirono praised Dr. Murthy’s innovation, dedication to keeping Americans healthy and proclivity for taking action.

Dr. Murthy and Hirono met earlier in December. 

An attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and an instructor at Harvard Medical School, at the meeting Dr. Murthy shared his current efforts to utilize the latest cloud-based technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of clinical trials that will bring new medicines to patients faster and more safely. Dr. Murthy also discussed the importance of motivating Americans to think about their priorities when it comes to making healthy life choices.
