In the January/February edition of Politico Magazine, journalist Liza Mundy published an article titled, “The Secret History of Women in the Senate,” where she documents the nearly hundred years of history for women in the Senate. Mundy details the challenges faced by women Senators, the pioneering spirits of Hattie Caraway and Margaret Chase Smith and the subsequent strides made by women Senators in committees. The article describes Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) hosting “crash courses” to brief newly-elected women Senators on life in the upper chamber. The national publication features photographs of Senator Hirono at the most recent Senate Women Power Workshop.
Last November, Senator Hirono joined her Senate women colleagues in Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office
to greet newly elected Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA).
