Dengue Fever Information & Resources

More than 100 cases of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, have been reported on Hawaii Island. While dengue fever is not endemic to Hawaii, it is occasionally brought to our state by travelers who were bit by infected mosquitoes. Hirono is monitoring the situation closely, and is working with state and federal counterparts to ensure that the Hawaii Department of Health and Hawaii Island have the resources they need to eradicate the current outbreak. As of November 25, a team from the Centers for Disease Control has been deployed to assist state and county officials.
